Reiki

Reiki is a type of energy healing. A session involves the client lying down while the practitioner either puts their hands on the client or hovers their hands just above them for roughly an hour, moving their hands to another spot every 5-10 minutes.

The secular explanation is that it gives you, the client, time to fully relax- you'll be lying down very comfortably, with your eyes closed or maybe even a blindfold on, with some relaxing music and incense, and the movement of the practitioner around your body will keep you present and calm, and subconsciously encourage you to relax your muscles as your attention is brought to them.

The spiritual explanation is that the practitioner is channelling universal energy from whatever your concept of God or the universal power is, through themselves and into you, which travels to the places it is most needed within your physical, mental and spiritual self and heals any damage that might be there. It pushes out energy that is not serving you and replaces it with healing energy, and at the end all the removed energy is gathered up and released back into the universe in a loving way.

Reiki can be done either in person or over distance. The benefit to doing Reiki in person is that you get both the spiritual and the secular benefits together, and it feels more like a special treat to yourself than someone sending you reiki while you're going about your daily life. However the healing Reiki gives works just as well over distance as in person.

Reiki is a complimentary therapy and it is not a replacement for medical treatment. Any medical concerns should always be discussed with a medically trained professional.
